No
business can afford to offer a service for free without finding
a way to defray their costs. Don't be fooled by companies
that offer "free domain names" only to charge you
a domain "transfer fee" or force you to host your
name with their service at some exhorbitant rate.
Companies that offer free hosting use many techniques to
recoup their money:
Banner Advertising:
These are for personal use and include annoying advertising
banners along the top or sides of your page making it obvious
you're on a free service. These banners are both distracting,
and often lure your viewers to leave your website.
Lowest hosting never forces
you to use banner advertising.
Pop Under Advertising:
Free services often use hidden pop unders which open and appear
in a hidden fashion and are not seen until after your page
is closed. Unfortunately pop unders can cause some browsers
to lock up and freeze causing the client to reboot and lose
your page. Pop unders are another annoyance that may keep
clients from revisiting your website.
Lowest hosting does not load
any pop under advertisements on your webpage.
Subdomain VS Your Domain:
Free services often use subdomain names which THEY own and
are a part of their primary name. Yourdomainname.freewebsitehosting.com
is an example. These names are longer and harder to remember
and are not always properly indexed by the search engines.
Worst of all you have no control if they raise their prices.
Lowest Hosting offers only full
top level domains that you own... ie: yourdomain.com.
Mailing List Sales:
Some companies offer a free webpage only if you agree to complete
a "demographic" survey and to receive constant advertising
(Junk Mail) offers in your email.
Lowest Hosting does not collect,
disseminate, or sell its customer's private information.
No Advanced Features:
Free services don't offer advanced features that some websites
require (CGI/SSI/PHP/MYSQL) ultimately limiting your web site
design options.
Lowest Hosting offers you a
full service webspace with all the features you need.
Limited Disk Space/Bandwidth:
Free services severely limit your disk space and bandwidth
rendering it almost useless. Once you are established on their
system, you will most likely require additional bandwidth
or disk space and upgrade to their "premium" paid
package.
Lowest Hosting offers you a
full 80 megabytes of webspace storage and unlimited traffic.
Limited E-mail:
Free services only allow you a single e-mail address and don't
offer "catch all" and other services that are crucial
to running a website. They also limit the size of the files
you can receive and the amount of storage space to hold your
e-mails. Worst of all they attach advertising messages on
the footer of your E-mails and anyone you email will know
you're on a free service. Many of these companies get you
hooked on using their service only to charge for it later.
Lastly, many are halting their free service altogether (Click
HERE
for some recent examples) forcing you to quickly find a new
e-mail provider and then endure the tedious task of trying
to contact everyone you ever e-mailed and every newsletter
or subscription in order to inform them of your new address.
Lowest hosting offers "Catch-All"
E-mail plus Unlimited POP-3 E-mail accounts with full SMTP.
Forced E-Commerce:
Many free "E-commerce" websites force you use their
gateway or merchant account providers. These merchant accounts
usually have much higher discount rates or fees allowing the
hosting company to make a percentage on your sales which can
end up costing you thousands of dollars per year.
Our shopping cart links allow
you to choose any merchant account or gateway provider you
like.
