Microsoft FrontPage & Publisher
This entry for the benefit of legacy MS Front page and Publisher Users:
Microsoft stopped making new versions of their FrontPage Web & Publisher design software in 2003.
That means that Microsoft no longer creates new versions of FrontPage for you to use on your own computer, and they don’t create new versions of the “server extensions” for Web hosting companies.
FrontPage Server Extension Phase Out?
To fully support special FrontPage script features (including hit counters, guestbooks, feedback forms, and search boxes), Web hosting companies used to use special “FrontPage server extensions” software provided by Microsoft. However, Microsoft has not made any new versions of the “server extensions” since 2002, and they will not make any new versions in the future.
Because the old “server extensions” are incompatible with modern Web servers, we no longer support installing new FrontPage server extensions. New sites will be able to use only the basic non-script features of FrontPage 2003.
If your site already has FrontPage Server Extensions activated, we’ll support that until Febuary 1, 2016 after which they will be removed from your server. The basic text and images on a FrontPage site will still work, but any special parts that requires FrontPage Server Extensions may stop stop working at any time unless you make the changes below.
We should emphasize that this change is not unique to our company: most hosting companies have either already discontinued FrontPage support or are in the process of doing so.
What Options do I have if I only use basic features of FrontPage 2003?
FrontPage can still be used for basic page design and publishing tasks just keep in mind the special FrontPage features aren't supported
To Publish Your FrontPage Web Using FTP
1. Create an FTP account on your Server using cPanel.
2. In Frontpage open your web and make any updates you require.
3. On the File menu, click Publish Site.
5. In the Remote Website Properties select FTP as the method and enter ftp.yourdomain in the remote location bar and (leave directory location blank)
6. Specify whether you want to publish only pages that have changed or all pages.
7. Click Publish.
Because you are publishing to a Web server that is not running the FrontPage Server Extensions, a warning may appear notifying you that your Web contains features that require the server extensions. If you cancel publishing in the middle of the operation, files that have already been published remain on the destination Web server.
- You can replace custom FrontPage hit counters with the custom hit counter we provide.
- You can replace custom FrontPage feedback forms with the Form to Email Generator we provide or install FormMail.
- FrontPage guestbook pages and search boxes will not work and should be removed.
If you’re unable to switch your hit counters or feedback forms by September 2012, we can help you with this or do it for you at no charge. (This is an exception to our usual policy of not changing the content of customer sites, because it’s caused by a change on our end.
Drag & Drop Website Builder (DNDWB)
